Yes, I know it’s quite late for me to post this, but as the cliche goes, better late than pregnant (when will that be considered hacky?). And since we’re doing a bit of low brow comedy, here’s another clip of lowbrow.

Alright, enough is enough. But let’s have one more.

Let’s have a final one.

So how was the show and the whole trip? It was amazing and a lot of fun. We had 2 nights of sold out shows, thanks to all the hard work of Umar and his peeps. When we found out about the great news, we celebrated. Well, Raffy and GB did.

The show was in the Old Parliament House which is supposedly haunted. We didn’t see or feel any ghosts. But then again, I wasn’t the one who drank beer backstage. The ghosts must’ve followed the violators (and I mean Umar and Sunny). Before the show, I sat in Lee Kwan Yew’s old seat and it felt… like any other seat. The venue itself had a very legislative feel. I felt like drafting a few laws.

Due to the success of the show, there are already talks of doing another one with even more comedians from the Comedy Cartel.

The first time I went to Shanghai, I was greeted by the hot humid weather and a thousand Chinese people rushing through Nanjing road. This time around, it was just a little bit hotter and more humid. However, the Bund was clear of construction and I found a new appreciation for this growing city.

I rode the fast elevator up the famous Oriental (is that word still offensive?) Pearl TV Tower, thinking I could get some pearl milk tea. On one of the viewing decks, there was glass bottom floor that made me sick to my stomach. Thankfully, I wasn’t wearing my skirt, which I left in the luggage in the bus.

Shanghai the second time around is sweeter. I still need to find that guy who sold me the fake 1TB USB drive from last time though. He has a stall at the Science Museum subway stop.

That is the famous Lei Feng Pagoda behind me in the romantic city of Hangzhou, which is a few hours drive from Shanghai. The legend of the Lei Feng Pagoda goes like this, if I can remember it and translate it correctly (our tour guide was Chinese so there are some expressions lost in translation)…

A few thousand years ago, there was a snake lady that lived in a forest. Then, one night (or was it day) a man was walking in the forest and saved the snake lady from being killed by humans that caught it (or it could’ve been the other way around, the snake lady saved the man in the forest). Anyway, the point is, there was some saving going on and the man and snake lady fell in love. Obviously, it was impossible for the two to unite as one was a human while the other a snake. So, through some magic that the snake lady did which involved the moon and sun, she took the form of a human – a ghost human. The couple bore a son. But, like most love stories, a powerful monk rejected the idea of a human and snake being in love, I guess he considered the relationship as beastiality. The monk did his magic and fought the snake lady. The snake lady lost and was buried under the pagoda. What happened to the son? Wait for the sequel.

The first time I was in Beijing was about a decade ago. That time, I could count the number of cars with my fingers, the Olympics did not invade the capital yet, and communism was still in fashion, but dentistry was not. Now, you can count the bicycles with one hand and most locals are prosperous as evidenced by the fancy cars and high rise condos housing concubines, excuse me, I mean 2nd wives. Hey, don’t judge. Feudalism still has its influence left behind. Raise the red lantern!

We made the usual stops: the Great Wall, Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City (sans the concubines) and the Summer Palace. A huge portrait of The Chairman greets you as you enter the Emperor’s Palace, a.k.a Forbidden City, from the Tianamen Square. The tour inside the huge city takes a few hours. Imagine if your house was that big? You’d need an intercom to call your maid to ask for a sandwich. And if she forgets your drink, she will take another hour to get back to you. She’d probably end up drinking your water by the time she gets back from the exhaustion.

I’ve been to Singapore a few times but never like this – treated like a superstar, and I don’t mean like Nora Aunor getting detained for illegal substances.

Right off the airplane, the paparazzi welcomed me with their flashing cameras and smiles. Those MASP guys lent their lenses and their inside photography tips on getting “willing” models.

And here I thought it was just going to be Renzie meeting us at the airport with his light and camera shouting all by himself, “Tim! Tim! Over here!”

Patrick, Me, and Renzie

From the airport, Frankie took us on a ride in his pimped up van. For all your transportation needs in Sing, Frankie is the man. Frankie Lim should not be confused with the retired basketball player Frankie Lim, even though they have the same height and smell.

We stayed in the new hotel Porcelain, which was conveniently located in Chinatown. Patrick and I discovered this very cool dessert called shaved ice. It’s nothing like Ice Monster back home. This one tastes very different. I’m thinking of franchising it. Another thing I discovered is that Patrick snores like a jackhammer. Actually, I already knew that even before the trip but I was hoping he had the surgery already.

Me at the Porcelain Hotel

The event was a whole day affair with booths, martial arts demos, and even dancing flight attendants from Cebu Pacific making the fair fun and interesting especially for Patrick who was scouting for “talents”. Well, that was the line he used.

Ninong Clive Owen receiving a prize

As soon as I hit the stage and did my opening bit, I knew the crowd was different. The audience was so receptive, I wanted to dive into them and let them carry me all the way to the back. But safety comes first, so I just let it happen in my imagination. They loved True Faith as they danced along to their familiar tunes. Aizza did 2 encore songs, probably even more if time permitted.

tim tayag performs in pinoy pride fair 2011

It got crazier after the show as the audience lined up to get photos with us. Yes, they lined up. I should’ve sold something like cd’s or dvd’s like the other artists but Singapore doesn’t allow pirated copies.

The whole experience was amazing. We are planning to come back soon for more shows. Thank you to all the people who watched. Thank you to MASP for the photos (the ones posted here are from them) and the company. Thank you TAG Event Concepts especially to Renzie Baluyut for pretty much everything. Thank you to all the sponsors and partners: Cebu Pacific, Cathy Valencia, SMDC, Carlos Celdran Tours, Sun Cellular, iRemit, Bonifacio resto, and everyone else who I might’ve missed.

Yes, it’s official. My favorite travel show On-Foot, which I happen to host/produce/write/direct/sell-to-the-highest-bidder, is now regularly airing on The Filipino Channel. That’s the good news. The bad news is, it’s only available outside of the Philippines. Don’t cry though because there will always be web versions I will be posting – behind the scenes and bloopers (wait, the whole show is a long blooper).

The Filipino Channel launched its new channels and Bro is one of them. Starting on June 30, 2011, On-Foot will be on Bro channel! Some new episodes that are currently being put together include my comedy tour in Singapore, and the States. Leave a comment below if there’s a particular place you’d like me to visit and hopefully I can include it in my itinerary. Who knows, maybe you could even join me on the show and show me around your hometown.

Thanks to everyone who watch the show and keep watching. You can send your donations directly to my paypal account. Private message me so I can give you the details.
