Someone leaked this video of an actor auditioning as an extra for the movie Bourne Legacy which is filming in the Philippines. This guy looks familiar but I just can’t place him. I hope he gets the part. He seems to be a very good character actor.

Why is it that clowns in the Philippines look so dirty? Underneath that white makeup you can see the poverty. No wonder some of the kids are scared of them.

This is what happens when my Facebook Fan Page reaches 1,500 likes. The kids reaction was priceless. Even as I drove away, they were jumping up and down cheering.

Yes, I know it’s quite late for me to post this, but as the cliche goes, better late than pregnant (when will that be considered hacky?). And since we’re doing a bit of low brow comedy, here’s another clip of lowbrow.

So how was the show and the whole trip? It was amazing and a lot of fun. We had 2 nights of sold out shows, thanks to all the hard work of Umar and his peeps. When we found out about the great news, we celebrated. Well, Raffy and GB did.

The show was in the Old Parliament House which is supposedly haunted. We didn’t see or feel any ghosts. But then again, I wasn’t the one who drank beer backstage. The ghosts must’ve followed the violators (and I mean Umar and Sunny). Before the show, I sat in Lee Kwan Yew’s old seat and it felt… like any other seat. The venue itself had a very legislative feel. I felt like drafting a few laws.

Due to the success of the show, there are already talks of doing another one with even more comedians from the Comedy Cartel.

your first stand up comedy performance

So you’re ready to do your first standup comedy set after downing 5 shirley temples. You think you know everything on how to be funny. But wait, before you go up for your comedy debut, here are 5 tips you might find useful for your first stand up performance:

1. Bring your friends.

Bringing your friends to a show is a double-edged sword. On one hand, they might just laugh at all your jokes even if they’re not funny. On the other hand, they might not laugh at all even if you are funny. But if it’s your first time, you need all the support you can get. Having supportive friends in the audience should help you feel comfortable on stage and help build your confidence, unless they’re funnier than you. Get a few performances under your belt, then you can do without them because the groupies will start coming.

2. Channel your nervous energy.

Everyone feels butterflies in their tummies. I still do, I just don’t throw up anymore. The key is to learn to use that nervousness onstage. Convert that anxiety into performance energy. Commit to your jokes and say them like you really mean them. You’ll be surprised how useful this nervousness can be.

3. Stick to your time.

Nobody likes a comedian who goes over time, especially when that comedian is bombing. Whether you’re doing an open mic or a paid show, you should always be aware of your time limit and stick to it. This is a courtesy to the other comedians who are waiting for their turn and also to show the club owner that you are a professional even if you’re just starting out.

4. Memorize your set.

You don’t have to memorize your bits verbatim but at least commit your set list to memory. Know what jokes you’re going to open with and what jokes to close with. As much as possible, try not to keep looking at your notes as this will distract you and your audience. I actually should do this in open mics as well.

5. Enjoy.

Have fun. After all, if doing comedy isn’t fun then it’s probably not worth doing it, right?

Thanks to Nescafe for letting me be a part of the launch of the Dolce Gusto system. I had a lot of fun backstage with the dancers. I learned how to dougie and I learned that wearing a tan shirt will make you look fat on top of the 10 lbs that video adds.

Jay of the Brass Munkeys also learned the dougie. He also learned he should stick to being a drummer.

Time to hit the supermarket to get more capsules for my Dolce Gusto machine.
