Here is a sneak peek at the call center comedy tour I recently finished this year. It started with an idea – how do I bring joy and laughter to people who are stressed out at work and don’t really have the right schedule to watch a standup comedy show? Well, why don’t I just go to where they are and give them some love? And the universe got things going by giving me Smart to sponsor the tour which was called “Live More Laugh More”. We did a total of 9 BPOs, 6 in Metro Manila, 2 in the South, and 1 up North. While the hours were certainly odd, we still had a lot of fun. Comedy knows no boundaries. We performed in office conference rooms, pantries, cafeterias, lobbies, etc. Special thanks to my fellow Comedy Cartel members Marlon Olivan and Derf Hebrado for joining me in the series. Filipino named WIlson Acedera in Walkind Dead

For all you Walking Dead fans, I know the 3rd season has ended but here’s something exciting – I found a Filipino guy who played one of the zombies in the series. His name is Wilson Acedera. Here is our interview:

Me: So Wilson, you were in the zombie series The Walking Dead. Which episodes were you in?

Wilson: I was in a few episodes for season 3 but the only close up I had was in episode 13.

Me: How many Filipinos were in the show?

Wilson: I dont think there was any other Filipinos but I couldn’t tell cause we all looked the same. Haha!

Me: Did they really make you eat people? If so did how did they taste? Like chicken? How about dog?

Wilson: I didn’t get to eat no one but I heard it tasted like chicken.

Me: As a Filipino zombie, did you feel discriminated? How about just being a zombie, were you discriminated?

Wilson: Nah, didn’t feel discriminated at all. I applied to be one.

Me: Given the chance, would you bite your mother-in-law whether you’re a zombie or not?

Wilson: If I was a zombie I probably would.

Me: Did you have any speaking lines besides “grrrr”?

Wilson: Nope.

Me: Did you get to meet any of the main cast members?

Wilson: Nah, I havent got to meet anyone yet they tell us to not go up to them.

Me: Is the governor really an asshole in real life?

Wilson: I’m not sure I never seen him when I was there.

Me: Who was the coolest from the cast?

Wilson: They all seemed pretty cool.

Ultimate Comedy Challenge

Okay, so I took some of the footage from the original Ricky Lo – Anne Hathaway interview about Les Miserables and did some magic on my laptop for an hour (probably shorter). I do not own the copyright to the orignal footage of the interview – duh obviously – but I’m saying that to protect my ass from any infringement or copyright laws. I don’t even know if just saying I don’t own it will make me not liable. Oh well, screw it. Also, it is not my intention to offend, belittle, or shame any party who is or was involved in the interview. I think the original interview already accomplished that. So chill out and just enjoy.

Remember when Tiger Woods re-engineered his swing? I believe there is the same thing in stand up comedy. It could be that you are re-engineering your comedy. Maybe you’re tired of those easy jokes that get big laughs and you’re now trying for something a bit deeper. Maybe you got inspired by Louis CK or another comedian you look up to to make your voice stronger and talk about things that are significant to you. Maybe you now prefer to get people to think about what you’re talking about rather than just getting cheap laughs from hacky material.

So in the meantime you struggle. People start to think you’re not funny anymore. You start to doubt yourself. Well, don’t. If you are a good comic, you know you have to keep plugging away and make a bit of sacrifice to get to the next level. Don’t be tempted to go back to getting the easy laughs just to boost your ego. Keep at it and work on your new swing. When you reach the next level of success, it will be well worth it. Good luck to you!
